Zico Reveals Portugal Dream
Former Fenerbahçe boss Zico has indicated that he would like to guide the Portuguese national squad.
The 55-year-old coach is rated very highly in Europe, having guided Fenerbahçe to the best Champions League campaign in the history of the club.
However, that did not stop him from leaving the Turkish side at the end of the season following complications over his renewal at Sükrü Saracoglu.
The White Pelé, as he was known when a player, has been linked as the successor of Luiz Felipe Scori in charge of the Portuguese national squad after it was confirmed that Big Phil would take the reins at Stamford Bridge.
Zico denied that he has received an offer from the Portuguese Football Federation but indicated that he would like to have the opportunity to coach the Euro 2004 runners-up.
"Of course I would like to have the opportunity to guide an elite club or national team," he told Sporttv. "Portugal are ranked as one of the best teams in Europe, and they have the best player in the world. Cristiano Ronaldo is in great form."
The Brazilian stated, meanwhile, that he was approached by Benfica before the Eagles confirmed Quique Flores as the new coach.
"When we leave a club, we are candidates to join another club.," he addeed. "Officially, I only got the offer from a club, Benfica, when I still was at Fenerbahçe."
